The Arabic root رخو (r-kh-w) carries the core meaning of softness, gentleness, and laxity. In its single Quranic occurrence (20:44), it appears in the command to Moses and Aaron to speak gently (qauwlan layyinan) to Pharaoh, though some scholars connect layyinan to this root's semantic field of soft speech.
