Description
The Arabic root شحم (sh-h-m) refers to fat, suet, or adipose tissue, particularly the internal fat of animals. In its Quranic usage (6:146), it appears in the context of dietary restrictions imposed upon the Jews, where Allah prohibited them from consuming the fat of cattle and sheep as a punishment for their wrongdoing, except for fat attached to the backs or entrails. This demonstrates how dietary laws served as both a test of obedience and a consequence of transgression in previous religious communities.
