Description
The Arabic root شرذم (sh-r-dh-m) conveys the meaning of a small, scattered, or insignificant group of people. In the Quran, it appears in Surah Ash-Shu'ara (26:54) where Pharaoh dismissively describes the Israelites fleeing with Moses as "merely a small band" (shirdhimah qalilun), attempting to minimize their threat and rally his forces against them. This usage emphasizes Pharaoh's arrogance and underestimation of those whom Allah was protecting, which ultimately led to his downfall despite viewing the Israelites as few and inconsequential.
