Al-Ahzab (The Combined Forces) · Ayah 15

وَلَقَدْ كَانُوا۟ عَـٰهَدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مِن قَبْلُ لَا يُوَلُّونَ ٱلْأَدْبَـٰرَ ۚ وَكَانَ عَهْدُ ٱللَّهِ مَسْـُٔولًا 15

And they had already promised Allāh before not to turn their backs [i.e., flee]. And ever is the promise to Allāh [that about which one will be] questioned.

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly

كَانُوا۟kānūthey had

كونk-w-nverb

عَـٰهَدُوا۟ʿāhadūpromised

عهد'-h-dverb

ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah

ألهa-l-hnoun

مِنminbefore

قَبْلُqablubefore

قبلq-b-lnoun

لَاlānot

يُوَلُّونَyuwallūnathey would turn

وليw-l-yverb

ٱلْأَدْبَـٰرَ ۚl-adbāratheir backs

دبرd-b-rnoun

وَكَانَwakānaAnd is

كونk-w-nverb

عَهْدُʿahdu(the) promise

عهد'-h-dnoun

ٱللَّهِl-lahi(to) Allah

ألهa-l-hnoun

مَسْـُٔولًۭاmasūlanto be questioned
