Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah refers to Allah's restoration of power and dominion to the Children of Israel after their defeat, providing them with wealth, children, and greater military strength. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi interpret this as Allah's promise of restoration following periods of subjugation, emphasizing that divine aid comes to those who remain steadfast. The verse illustrates the cyclical nature of trials and victories in the history of nations, with Allah ultimately determining outcomes.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in the context of Surah Al-Isra, which details the historical narrative of Bani Israel's relationship with Allah. The verse refers to the historical cycles of the Children of Israel—their rise, fall, and restoration—particularly their periods of captivity under empires like Babylon and their subsequent returns. It serves as a reminder to the Prophet's community about divine justice and the consequences of obedience and disobedience.
Related Hadiths
While no single hadith directly parallels this verse, Surah Al-Isra's themes connect to the hadith in Sahih Muslim about the Prophet's night journey (Isra) itself. Additionally, the concept of divine aid returning to believers relates to Sahih Bukhari's hadith: 'Know that victory comes with patience, relief with affliction, and ease with hardship.'
