Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah continues the jinn's testimony regarding the Quran, stating that it 'guides to righteousness (al-rushd), so we believed in it, and we will never associate partners with our Lord.' The jinn acknowledge the Quran's divine guidance and their consequent belief, coupled with their commitment to pure monotheism. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir emphasize that the jinn's recognition of the Quran's miraculous nature and its clear guidance toward the straight path led them to embrace faith and reject shirk (polytheism), serving as a powerful testimony to the Quran's transformative power.
Revelation Context
This ayah is part of the jinn's collective testimony in Surah Al-Jinn, where they report their experience of hearing the Quran and their subsequent conversion to Islam. The surah appears to document the jinn's response to the Quran during the Prophet Muhammad's (ﷺ) recitation, emphasizing that guidance transcends human boundaries and appeals even to the jinn community. The thematic context highlights the universal nature of the Quran's message and its power to guide all conscious beings toward monotheism.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever among you sees an evil action, let him change it with his hand; if he is not able to do so, then with his tongue; if he is not able to do so, then with his heart—and that is the weakest of faith' (Sahih Muslim 49). Additionally, the Quran's role as guidance is emphasized in: 'This Quran guides to that which is most just' (17:9), reflecting the theme of al-rushd (righteous guidance).

Key Lesson
This ayah teaches that true belief naturally leads to the rejection of polytheism and exclusive devotion to Allah alone; when hearts are guided to righteousness through divine revelation, they instinctively commit to pure monotheism. For modern readers, it serves as a reminder that sincere engagement with the Quran's message should strengthen our tawhid and protect us from subtle forms of shirk in contemporary life.
