Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah means 'And the most pious one will avoid it (the Fire),' referring to those who possess taqwa (God-consciousness and piety) who will be protected from Hell. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, this verse emphasizes that true piety and devotion to Allah's commands are the ultimate protection from divine punishment, and that the righteous will be spared from the torment prepared for those who reject faith and commit evil deeds.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in the context of Surah Al-Layl, which was revealed in Mecca and discusses the contrasting fates of the righteous and the wicked. The surah presents two paths: one leading to ease and prosperity through charity and faith, and the other leading to hardship and punishment through stinginess and rejection of truth. This particular ayah concludes the surah's discussion of ultimate salvation.
