Transliteration

Fa-ansha'na lakum bihi jannatim min nakhilin wa-a'nabin lakum fiha fawakihu kathirah wa-minha ta'kulun

Tafsir (Explanation)

Allah describes how He has created gardens of date palms and grapevines through the water (rain) sent down, providing abundant fruits for human sustenance and enjoyment. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir emphasize this as evidence of Allah's bounty and careful provision for mankind, demonstrating His power in creation and His concern for human welfare. The mention of these specific fruits highlights the diversity of Allah's creation and His generosity in providing both necessities and luxuries.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in Surah Al-Mu'minun, a Meccan surah that emphasizes the signs of Allah's creation and His attributes. It follows the discussion of water as a source of life and precedes further examples of Allah's blessings. The context focuses on refuting idolatry by presenting tangible proofs of monotheism through observable natural phenomena.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: 'The best charity is water' (Tirmidhi). Additionally, the Quran itself in 80:31 mentions gardens and grainfields as signs, with related hadith in Sahih Bukhari describing the Prophet's appreciation for date palms as 'aunun' (supporting sustenance for families).
