Transliteration

Tafsir (Explanation)
On the Day of Judgment, Allah will call out to the polytheists, asking them where are the partners they claimed He had and whom they worshipped alongside Him. This ayah emphasizes the futility of shirk (associating partners with Allah), as those false deities will neither respond nor be present to help or intercede for their worshippers. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir note this represents a moment of profound humiliation and realization for the disbelievers, when all their false claims and fabrications are exposed before Allah.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears within Surah Al-Qasas, a Meccan chapter that addresses the polytheists of Mecca and their practices of idolatry. The broader context discusses the Day of Judgment and how Allah will question the disbelievers about their deeds and beliefs. The surah repeatedly emphasizes the consequences of rejecting monotheism and following false gods.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'On the Day of Judgment, the sun will be brought close to the people, and they will be asked about their deeds.' (Tirmidhi) - This relates to the theme of divine questioning on the Day of Judgment. Additionally, the Qur'an mentions in Surah Yunus (10:28): 'And the Day when He will say, "Call upon those you claimed as partners besides Me," they will call upon them, but they will not respond to them.' (Sahih International)

Key Lesson
This ayah serves as a powerful reminder that those who associate partners with Allah in worship will face humiliation and questioning on the Day of Judgment, while their false deities will abandon them completely. For modern believers, it reinforces the importance of pure monotheism and the need to ensure all our worship, reliance, and devotion are directed solely to Allah.
