Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah describes the punishment that descends upon those who rejected the warnings of the messengers. When Allah's torment comes upon their lands and people, the morning becomes evil and bitter for those who had been warned. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir interpret this as referring specifically to the fate of disbelieving nations throughout history—their morning of reckoning becomes dark and calamitous because they ignored the divine message delivered to them.
Revelation Context
This ayah is part of Surah As-Saffat's broader theme of warning the disbelievers about the consequences of rejecting prophethood and divine guidance. The surah recounts stories of previous prophets and the destruction that befell those who rejected their messages, emphasizing the pattern of divine punishment for those who turn away from warnings.
Related Hadiths
The theme relates to Hadith in Sahih Bukhari and Muslim: 'Whoever rejects the messenger has rejected me, and whoever rejects me rejects Allah.' This emphasizes the gravity of rejecting divine warnings brought by the messengers, as referenced throughout Surah As-Saffat.
