Tafsir (Explanation)

Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) responds with absolute confidence to his followers' fear when they are trapped between Pharaoh's army and the sea, declaring 'No! Indeed, my Lord is with me; He will guide me.' This statement reflects complete trust (tawakkul) in Allah's divine aid and protection. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir emphasize that this ayah demonstrates the Prophet's unwavering faith despite seemingly impossible circumstances, serving as a model of reliance on Allah during trials.

Revelation Context

This ayah occurs in the narrative of Musa and the Israelites' escape from Egypt, specifically at the critical moment when the people panic upon seeing Pharaoh's army pursuing them. The surah Ash-Shu'ara presents this story as a reminder to the Meccan disbelievers of Allah's power to deliver the believers, paralleling the Prophet Muhammad's situation during the early Meccan period.

Related Hadiths

The theme of tawakkul (reliance on Allah) is reinforced in the hadith: 'Trust in Allah as if you have no need of anything in the world, but prepare as if you will never die' (attributed to Umar ibn al-Khattab). Additionally, Sahih Bukhari contains multiple hadiths on tawakkul where the Prophet (peace be upon him) taught that complete reliance on Allah is an essential aspect of faith.
