Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah presents a fundamental declaration of Islamic monotheism (tawhīd), affirming that Allah alone is the Creator of all things and that none deserves worship except Him. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi emphasize that after establishing Allah's creative power and uniqueness, the ayah poses a rhetorical question (fa-annā tu'fakūn - 'how then are you turned away?') to challenge the polytheists' illogical rejection of pure monotheism despite the clear evidence of Allah's oneness evident in creation.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in Surah Ghafir (a Meccan chapter revealed during the period of intense opposition to the Prophet's message). It comes within a section addressing the Meccan polytheists, reinforcing the core message of tawhīd against their idolatrous practices. The surah's broader context involves dialogues between believers and disbelievers about Allah's attributes and the inevitability of the Day of Judgment.
Related Hadiths
Sahih Bukhari (3191): The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, 'The greatest sin is to associate partners with Allah (shirk), for Allah has said: 'Indeed, associating others with Allah is a tremendous injustice.' Related thematically: Muslim (8): 'Whoever meets Allah without associating anything with Him will enter Paradise, and whoever meets Him associating partners with Him will enter the Fire.'

Key Lesson
This ayah reminds believers that recognizing Allah as the sole Creator of everything should logically lead to worshipping Him alone, and challenges us to examine whether our actions truly reflect our belief in His oneness. It serves as a call to reflect on the irrationality of divided loyalties and the importance of aligning our worship exclusively with the One who deserves it.
