Translations

Our Lord, and admit them to gardens of perpetual residence which You have promised them and whoever was righteous among their forefathers, their spouses and their offspring. Indeed, it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

Transliteration

Rabbana wa-adkhilhum jannati 'Adn allatee wa'attahum wa-man salaha min aba'ihim wa-azwajihim wa-dhurriyyatihim. Innaka anta al-'Aziz al-Hakim.

Tafsir (Explanation)

The believers supplicate to Allah to admit the righteous into the Gardens of Eden that He has promised them, including not only themselves but also their pious ancestors, spouses, and offspring. Ibn Kathir emphasizes that this verse reflects the believers' concern for their loved ones' spiritual well-being and their trust in Allah's ability to reunite the righteous in Paradise. The attributes 'Al-'Aziz' (The Mighty/Invincible) and 'Al-Hakim' (The All-Wise) affirm that Allah alone has the power and wisdom to grant this tremendous reward.

Revelation Context

This ayah is part of Surah Ghafir (Meccan surah), which focuses on Allah's forgiveness and mercy. It occurs within a passage where the angels intercede for the believers on the Day of Judgment. The context reflects the Meccan period's emphasis on eschatology, resurrection, and the assurance of Paradise for those who believe and act righteously.
