Transliteration

Wa-al-Qur'ani al-hakeem

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah is an oath by Allah swearing by the Qur'an, describing it as al-hakeem (the wise). According to classical scholars like Al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir, this oath emphasizes the Qur'an's supreme wisdom, comprehensive guidance, and divine origin. The swearing by the Qur'an itself affirms its status as a miraculous revelation and prepares the reader for the important message that follows in the surah regarding the Day of Judgment and the resurrection.

Revelation Context

Surah Ya-Sin is a Meccan surah revealed during the early period of the Prophet's mission when the Quraysh were denying the message of Islam and the resurrection. This opening ayah, combined with the preceding letter 'Ya-Sin,' serves as an emphatic introduction to the surah's central themes of tawhid (monotheism), the certainty of the afterlife, and the irrefutable nature of the Qur'an's message.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'The best of you are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it' (Sahih Bukhari 5027). Additionally, 'Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah will have a good deed recorded for him, and a good deed is multiplied by ten' (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 2910).
