Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah is part of Prophet Musa's (Moses) supplication to Allah, wherein he and the believers ask for deliverance from the disbelieving people through Allah's mercy. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, this du'a reflects the believers' complete reliance on Allah's mercy as the means of salvation from their oppressors, emphasizing that deliverance comes not through human strength alone but through divine grace. The ayah teaches that sincere supplication combined with faith in Allah's mercy is the path to protection from those who reject truth.
Revelation Context
This ayah occurs within the narrative of Prophet Musa and the Israelites' exodus from Egypt. The context shows the believers making du'a (supplication) after witnessing the miracles of Allah and crossing the Red Sea, seeking protection from Pharaoh's disbelieving people. This is part of Surah Yunus's broader theme of Allah's power over disbelievers and His protection of the faithful.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: 'The du'a of a Muslim is answered as long as he does not ask for something sinful or the breaking of family ties' (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3479). Additionally, the concept of relying on Allah's mercy is reflected in: 'Say, O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah' (Quran 39:53).
