Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah describes how those who possess taqwa (God-consciousness) respond when whispers or temptations from Satan touch their hearts: they remember Allah and His commands, and immediately regain clarity of vision and moral direction. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi emphasize that taqwa acts as a protective shield, enabling believers to recognize evil impulses and swiftly return to righteousness through remembrance (dhikr) of Allah, demonstrating that spiritual awareness is the antidote to Satanic whispers.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in the Meccan Surah Al-A'raf, which deals extensively with the struggle between faith and temptation, and the characteristics of the pious. It is part of a broader discourse on human nature and the internal battle against evil whispers, providing comfort to early Muslims facing spiritual challenges during the Meccan period.

Related Hadiths

Key Lesson

For modern believers, this ayah teaches that cultivating genuine taqwa through consistent remembrance of Allah provides spiritual resilience against negative thoughts and temptations, and that immediate recourse to dhikr (remembrance) is a practical tool for moral clarity in moments of weakness. True protection lies not in denying struggles, but in swift spiritual reorientation toward Allah.
