Transliteration

Tafsir (Explanation)

Allah promises the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) a mighty and unassailable victory. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, this refers to divine support that is both powerful and invincible, emphasizing that Allah's assistance is overwhelming and cannot be resisted by any opposing force. Al-Qurtubi notes that this 'azīz (mighty/mighty) victory encompasses both spiritual triumph and manifest conquest, affirming Allah's complete dominion over the outcome of events.

Revelation Context

This ayah is part of Surah Al-Fath, revealed in the context of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah (6 AH), when the Muslims were initially disappointed by the apparent restrictions of the peace agreement. The surah was revealed to console the believers and assure them that their apparent setback would lead to ultimate victory. This ayah specifically reinforces Allah's promise that despite outward circumstances, divine support would manifest in a decisive and authoritative manner.

Related Hadiths

Sahih Bukhari (3183): The Prophet said, 'I have been sent just before the Hour with the sword, so that Allah alone is worshipped; and my sustenance has been placed under the shadow of my spear.' This relates to the theme of divine military support. Also, Muslim (1783) records the Prophet's confidence in Allah's promise of victory despite earthly opposition.

Key Lesson

This ayah teaches believers that temporary setbacks or apparent defeats should not shake our confidence in Allah's promises, as His support operates on a different plane than human expectations. It reminds us that true victory (spiritual, moral, or material) comes from aligning ourselves with Allah's will, and that His assistance—when it comes—is both absolute and invincible.
