Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah describes two groups in dispute regarding their Lord: the believers and the disbelievers. For those who rejected faith, Allah has prepared garments of fire, with scalding water poured over their heads from above. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari interpret this as depicting the severe punishment of the disbelievers in the Hellfire, emphasizing the reality of divine justice and the consequences of rejecting the truth.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in the context of Surah Al-Hajj, which discusses the Pilgrimage and contrasts the states of believers and disbelievers. The surah was revealed in Medina and addresses the fundamental disagreement between those who accept Allah's guidance and those who reject it, illustrating the eternal conflict between truth and falsehood.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The Fire will be displayed to the people on the Day of Resurrection, and they will see it. Some will say: O Lord, protect me from the Fire' (Tirmidhi).
