Transliteration

Inna lamma tağha al-māu ḥamalnākum fī al-jāriyah

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah refers to the Great Flood during the time of Prophet Nuh (Noah), when Allah commanded him to build the Ark to save the believers and the animals. When the waters of the flood overwhelmed the earth, Allah carried the believers and the creatures aboard the Ark (al-jāriyah). Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari emphasize that this verse demonstrates Allah's divine protection of His righteous servants and His power over creation, as He preserved Nuh and those who believed with him through this catastrophic judgment upon the disbelievers.

Revelation Context

This ayah is part of Surah Al-Haqqah (The Reality), a Meccan surah that emphasizes divine judgment and accountability. It appears within the broader narrative of the surah that discusses various destroyed nations and divine punishments, using the historical example of Nuh's flood as evidence of Allah's ultimate justice and the certainty of the Day of Judgment (Yawm al-Qiyamah).

Related Hadiths

Related to the broader theme of Nuh's story: The Prophet ﷺ mentioned that Nuh called to his people for 950 years (Quran 29:14), and only a few believed with him. This is supported by references in various hadith collections discussing the patient preaching of the prophets despite rejection.
