Transliteration

Wa-innahu la-hasratu 'ala al-kafireen

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah affirms that the Qur'an is indeed a source of deep regret and loss for the disbelievers, as they rejected its guidance and truth. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, the 'regret' (hasrah) refers to the profound sorrow and remorse the disbelievers will experience on the Day of Judgment when they witness the reality of what they denied. Al-Qurtubi notes that this serves as both a warning to those who reject faith and a reassurance to believers of the Qur'an's absolute truthfulness.

Revelation Context

Surah Al-Haqqah emphasizes the certainty of the Day of Judgment and the absolute reality of the Qur'an's divine origin. This concluding verse (50) of the surah reaffirms the Qur'an's authenticity and serves as a final warning to Meccan polytheists who stubbornly rejected the Prophet Muhammad's message despite clear signs.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'The best among you are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it' (Sahih Bukhari 5027). Additionally, 'Whoever turns away from the Qur'an will find no guide on the Day of Judgment' (referenced in various tafsir works as a thematic principle).
