Transliteration

Kallā bal tukadhdhībūn bid-dīn

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah is Allah's rejection of the disbelievers' denial, emphasizing that they are indeed belying the Day of Judgment (ad-dīn). The word 'kallā' (nay/no) serves as a strong rebuttal to their false claims of not being held accountable. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari interpret this as Allah's definitive response to those who deny the reality of divine judgment and resurrection, confirming that their denial does not negate the truth of the Day of Reckoning.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in the context of Surah Al-Infitar, a Meccan surah addressing the disbelievers' rejection of the Hereafter and divine accountability. The preceding verses describe the celestial guardians and Allah's complete knowledge of human deeds, establishing the context for this forceful affirmation that the Day of Judgment is inescapable regardless of their disbelief.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'The most truthful statement ever spoken by an Arab is the saying of Labīd: 'Verily, everything other than Allah is false' (Surah Al-Infitar 82:8)' - reported in Sahih Bukhari. This hadith contextualizes the surah's theme of absolute truth versus human denial.
