Transliteration
Alladhīna yarithūna al-firdawsa hum fīhā khālidūn
Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah describes those who inherit Paradise (al-Firdaws), the highest level of Jannah, as being eternally dwelling therein. Al-Qurtubi and Ibn Kathir explain that the word 'inherit' (yarithūn) denotes that Paradise is their ultimate reward granted by Allah, obtained through their righteous deeds and faith. The emphasis on their eternal abode (khālidūn) reinforces the permanence and timelessness of this blessing for the believers.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in the context of Surah Al-Mu'minun (Meccan), which describes the characteristics of true believers and their ultimate reward. The surah was revealed to encourage early Muslims during persecution, emphasizing that steadfastness in faith leads to the greatest reward—the eternal gardens of Paradise, particularly al-Firdaws, the most excellent of its ranks.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'When you ask Allah for Paradise, ask Him for al-Firdaws, for it is the highest part of Paradise' (Sahih Bukhari 3250). Additionally, the Prophet stated: 'There are one hundred grades in Paradise which Allah has prepared for those who fight in His Cause' (Sahih Bukhari 2790), indicating the hierarchical nature of Paradise rewards.
