Al-Mu'minun · Ayah 112

قَـٰلَ كَمْ لَبِثْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ عَدَدَ سِنِينَ 112

Translations

[Allāh] will say, "How long did you remain on earth in number of years?"

Transliteration

Qāla kam labithtu m fil-ardhi 'adada sinīn

Tafsir (Explanation)

Allah (or the angel recording deeds) asks the souls on the Day of Judgment how long they remained on Earth, measured in years. This ayah emphasizes the accountability for the time spent in worldly life and how fleeting human existence truly is. Classical scholars like Al-Tabari note this question serves to remind souls of their brief tenure and the importance of using their lifespan wisely for obedience to Allah.
