Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah states that on the Day of Judgment, the final return and settlement of all matters is to your Lord alone. Classical scholars like Al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir interpret 'al-mustaqarr' (the place of return/settlement) to mean that Allah is the ultimate destination where all creatures will be judged and their final abode determined. This emphasizes Allah's absolute sovereignty and the certainty of the Day of Resurrection, where all worldly disputes and uncertainties will be conclusively resolved.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in Surah Al-Qiyamah, a Meccan chapter that focuses on the reality and inevitability of the Day of Judgment. The broader context (75:11-15) discusses how a disbeliever denies the resurrection, while this verse affirms that despite such denial, the ultimate return to Allah is certain and will occur.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'The Day of Judgment will not come until time is near, when a year will be like a month, a month like a week, a week like a day, a day like an hour, and an hour like the kindling of fire.' (Jami' at-Tirmidhi). Also relevant: 'Every soul shall taste death, and only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your wages in full.' (Quran 3:185, referenced in Sahih Muslim).
