Tafsir (Explanation)
Allah declares that He created humanity in pairs—male and female—as a sign of His wisdom and power. This pairing is foundational to human society, enabling procreation, companionship, and the continuation of generations. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi emphasize this ayah as evidence of divine design in human creation, establishing the natural and complementary relationship between the sexes as part of Allah's perfect creation.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in Surah An-Naba (Chapter 78), a Meccan surah that focuses on the signs of Allah's power and the certainty of the Day of Judgment. The ayah is part of a broader passage (78:6-16) enumerating Allah's creations and favors upon humanity, reminding the Meccan disbelievers of divine signs they should recognize.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The best of you are those who are best to their wives' (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3895). Additionally, 'Women are the twin halves of men' (Sunan Ibn Majah 1977), highlighting the complementary nature of the male-female relationship established in this ayah.
