Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah opens a new section addressing the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with the rhetorical question, 'Has there come to you the story of Moses?' According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, this introduction serves to draw attention to the remarkable narrative of Moses that follows, emphasizing the parallels between his mission and that of Prophet Muhammad. The ayah transitions from the description of the Day of Judgment to presenting historical evidence of Allah's power through the story of Moses and Pharaoh, demonstrating Allah's pattern of supporting His messengers.

Revelation Context

This ayah occurs in Surah An-Nazi'at, a Meccan surah that emphasizes the reality of the Day of Judgment and divine power. The story of Moses is presented as a powerful testament to Allah's ability to save the believers and punish the disbelievers, providing comfort to the early Muslim community facing persecution in Mecca. The context immediately follows descriptions of the resurrection and precedes the detailed narrative of Moses and Pharaoh.

Related Hadiths

While no hadith directly explains this specific ayah, Sahih Bukhari records that the Prophet (peace be upon him) frequently recited the story of Moses to strengthen the faith of believers during difficult times. Additionally, Jami' at-Tirmidhi includes traditions about the Prophet's deep connection to the story of Moses as a predecessor messenger.
