Transliteration

Fa-amma alladhina amanu wa 'amilu as-salihati fahum fi rawdatin yuhbarun

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah describes the reward of the believers who have faith and perform righteous deeds—they will be in gardens (Paradise) wherein they will be honored and delighted. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi explain that 'rawdah' (garden) signifies the Paradise with its lush vegetation and beauty, while 'yuhabrun' means they will be honored, blessed, and given delight without measure. The ayah emphasizes that true success combines both internal faith ('iman) and external righteous actions ('amal salih), making this a complete description of the believer's path to eternal reward.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in Surah Ar-Rum (Chapter 30), a Meccan surah revealed during the early Islamic period. It is part of a larger discourse contrasting the fate of believers and disbelievers on the Day of Judgment. The surah addresses the believers facing persecution in Mecca, reassuring them of Allah's justice and the ultimate reward awaiting the faithful.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The believer's shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity' (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 1987), emphasizing that righteous deeds precede believers to Paradise. Additionally, 'Whoever believes in Allah and does righteous deeds, there is no fear upon them nor shall they grieve' (Quran 2:262) is a thematic parallel frequently cited in hadith collections about the security of believers.

Key Lesson

This ayah teaches believers that genuine faith must be accompanied by righteous action—belief alone without deeds is insufficient for attaining Paradise. For modern readers, it is a reminder that sincere faith expressed through consistent good conduct, charity, integrity, and obedience to Allah's commandments constitutes the pathway to honor both in this life and eternal bliss in the afterlife.
