Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah affirms that Allah rewards those who do good deeds (al-muhsineen) in the manner described in the preceding context—referring to Ibrahim's steadfastness and obedience. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari note that this verse encapsulates the divine principle of just recompense, where excellence in faith and action receives divine blessing. The reward is both in this life through honor and good reputation, and in the Hereafter through eternal paradise.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in the context of Surah As-Saffat's discussion of prophets and their trials. It follows the account of Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to Allah. The verse generalizes the reward principle demonstrated through Ibrahim's example, showing that all who embody ihsan (excellence in worship and conduct) receive similar divine recognition and blessing.
