وَقَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَا هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ 20
Translations
They will say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense."
Transliteration
Wa qāloo yā waylana hādhā yawmu ad-dīn
Tafsir (Explanation)
On the Day of Judgment, the disbelievers will cry out in despair, 'Woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense.' According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, this ayah depicts the disbelievers' sudden realization and regret when they witness the reality of the Day of Judgment after denying it in the worldly life. يَوْمَ يَدْعُوكُمْ فَتَسْتَجِيبُونَ بِحَمْدِهِۦ وَتَظُنُّونَ إِن لَّبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
On the Day He will call you and you will respond with praise of Him and think that you had not remained [in the world] except for a little."
وَلَا تَنفَعُ ٱلشَّفَـٰعَةُ عِندَهُۥٓ إِلَّا لِمَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُۥ ۚ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فُزِّعَ عَن قُلُوبِهِمْ قَالُوا۟ مَاذَا قَالَ رَبُّكُمْ ۖ قَالُوا۟ ٱلْحَقَّ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَلِىُّ ٱلْكَبِيرُ
And intercession does not benefit with Him except for one whom He permits. [And those wait] until, when terror is removed from their hearts, they will say [to one another], "What has your Lord said?" They will say, "The truth." And He is the Most High, the Grand.
