Nazala bihi ar-ruh al-amin

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah refers to the descent of the Qur'an upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through Jibril (Gabriel), who is referred to as 'ar-ruh al-amin' (the Trustworthy Spirit). Ibn Kathir explains that 'ar-ruh' (the Spirit) is Jibril, and 'al-amin' (the Trustworthy One) emphasizes his reliability and purity as the messenger of divine revelation. This verse affirms the miraculous nature of the Qur'an and the honesty of both the angel and the Prophet in conveying God's message without distortion.

Revelation Context

Surah Ash-Shu'ara addresses the Meccan polytheists who rejected the Qur'an and mocked the Prophet. This ayah appears within the context of the surah defending the authenticity of the Qur'an against those who claimed it was poetry or fabrication, establishing its divine origin through its mode of revelation.
