And We saved Moses and those with him, all together.

Transliteration

Wa-anjayna Musa wa-man ma'ahu ajma'in

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah declares that Allah saved Musa (Moses) and all those who believed with him from the persecution of Pharaoh and his army. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, this refers to the miraculous parting of the Red Sea, where Allah granted safe passage to the Children of Israel while drowning Pharaoh and his forces. The phrase 'ajma'in' (altogether/all together) emphasizes the complete deliverance of the entire believing community without exception.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in the context of Surah Ash-Shu'ara, a Meccan chapter that recounts stories of previous prophets and their peoples to comfort Prophet Muhammad and reassure the believers in Mecca. It specifically follows the narrative of Musa's confrontation with Pharaoh and precedes the account of Pharaoh's drowning, serving as evidence of Allah's power to protect His servants.

Related Hadiths

The story is corroborated in Sahih Bukhari (Volume 4, Book 55, Hadith 580) where the Prophet Muhammad describes the parting of the sea. Additionally, Sunan Ibn Majah contains hadiths about the mercy of Allah toward those who believe and follow His messengers.
