Transliteration

Tilka al-jannatu allati nuurithu min ibadina man kana taqiyya

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah describes Paradise as the inheritance granted by Allah to His servants who possessed taqwa (God-consciousness and piety). Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi emphasize that Paradise is not merely a reward but an inheritance—a gift passed down to those who demonstrated genuine fear of Allah and righteousness in their lives. The term 'taqwa' encompasses both belief and righteous action, making it the essential qualification for inheriting this eternal blessing.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in the Meccan surah of Maryam, which was revealed during the early period of Islam and focuses on prophetic narratives and the Hereafter. The surah establishes themes of divine mercy and the reward awaiting the righteous, with this particular ayah concluding the description of Paradise prepared for the pious believers, providing spiritual encouragement to early Muslims facing persecution.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Taqwa is here' (pointing to the chest) three times, emphasizing that piety is rooted in the heart (Jami' at-Tirmidhi). Additionally, a hadith in Sahih Muslim states that on the Day of Judgment, nothing will be more beneficial than taqwa.

Key Lesson

True success in the Hereafter is not determined by wealth, status, or worldly achievements, but by cultivating taqwa—a sincere consciousness of Allah that manifests in moral and spiritual discipline. For modern believers, this emphasizes that lasting inheritance comes through developing genuine piety, making our relationship with Allah the foundation of all meaningful pursuits.
