This ayah responds to the arrogant claims of the disbelievers who deny the Hereafter and reject Allah's signs. Allah declares that He will record all their false statements and will extend their punishment in the afterlife. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari emphasize that this is a stern warning that no word or deed escapes Allah's knowledge, and the consequences for rejecting faith are severe and prolonged.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in the context of Surah Maryam's discussion of various prophets and the fate of believers versus disbelievers. It follows verses addressing those who deny resurrection and make claims about their gods, serving as a direct refutation of their arrogance and a reminder of divine accountability on the Day of Judgment.
