Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah refers to those who turn away from the Quran and its guidance, stating that they will bear a burden (sin) on the Day of Resurrection. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari explain that 'wizr' (burden/weight) refers to the sin and burden of their rejection and negligence of the divine message. The ayah emphasizes personal accountability—each person who rejects guidance must answer for their choice before Allah on the Day of Judgment.

Revelation Context

This verse appears in Surah Taha, a Meccan chapter that emphasizes the importance of the Quran as guidance and warns against turning away from it. The broader context of the surah addresses those who reject the message brought by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and neglect the signs of Allah presented in the Quran.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not from me' (Sahih Bukhari 5063). Additionally, the hadith in Sahih Muslim regarding the burden of sins on the Day of Judgment relates to the concept of carrying the weight of one's deeds.
