Tafsir (Explanation)
The people ask the Prophet Muhammad about the mountains, and Allah commands him to respond that his Lord will blow them away completely on the Day of Judgment. Ibn Kathir explains that this refers to the transformation of the mountains into dust during the Hour, as mentioned in Surah Al-Waqiah (56:5), signifying the complete destruction and renewal of creation. This ayah emphasizes the absolute power of Allah over all creation and the certainty of the Day of Resurrection.
Revelation Context
This ayah is part of Surah Taha, a Meccan surah revealed during the early Meccan period to strengthen the faith of believers facing persecution. It addresses the Meccan disbelievers' questions about eschatological matters, specifically their curiosity about what will happen to the mountains—the most seemingly permanent features of creation—on the Day of Judgment.
Related Hadiths
The concept of mountains being turned to dust is reinforced in authentic hadith collections discussing the Day of Judgment. See also Sahih Bukhari's chapters on the signs of the Hour, which describe similar transformations of the creation at the end of times.

Key Lesson
