Tafsir (Explanation)

Allah reminds Prophet Moses of another favor He bestowed upon him, referring to his rescue as an infant when he was placed in the basket and cast into the river, as mentioned in Surah Al-Qasas. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, this ayah emphasizes Allah's continuous protection and nurturing of Moses throughout his life, establishing a pattern of divine mercy that preceded even his appointment as a messenger. This reminder serves to strengthen Moses' faith and confidence in Allah's support as he undertakes his mission to Pharaoh.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears within Allah's address to Moses at the burning bush (the sacred valley of Tuwa), where Allah is reminding him of past favors before sending him to confront Pharaoh. The context is foundational to Surah Taha, which chronicles Moses' early life and divine calling. The 'other time' (marrata ukhraa) specifically references his miraculous survival as an infant, establishing that Allah's protection of Moses was not coincidental but part of a deliberate divine plan.

Related Hadiths

While no hadith directly quotes this ayah, the incident is confirmed in Surah Al-Qasas 28:7-13, where Umm Musa places the baby Moses in the river. The broader theme of divine providence is supported by numerous hadiths on Allah's protection, such as in Jami' at-Tirmidhi regarding Allah's care for His servants.
