Tafsir (Explanation)
Allah commands mankind to reflect upon their food and how it is produced, as a sign of divine wisdom and mercy. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir explain that this ayah invites contemplation of the entire process of food creation—from the rain that nourishes plants to the soil and sun—as evidence of Allah's careful provision and power. This reflection should lead to gratitude to Allah and recognition of His signs (ayat) in creation.
Revelation Context
This ayah is part of Surah 'Abasa, which was revealed in Mecca during the early Islamic period. The surah broadly addresses the importance of reflection on divine signs and Allah's creation. Verses 24-32 specifically elaborate on the miraculous process of plant growth and grain production, inviting believers to contemplate the agricultural cycle as proof of divine orchestration.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'The best charity is when one has little and still gives' (Tirmidhi). Additionally, the Prophet encouraged gratitude for provisions, saying: 'Whoever is grateful will receive increase in blessings' (Quran 14:7, reinforced by hadith traditions on shukr in Tirmidhi and others).
