Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah refers to a man's wife and children who will be separated from him on the Day of Judgment. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir explain that despite the close bonds of kinship and companionship in this life, these relationships cannot help or save one another when facing Allah's judgment. Al-Qurtubi notes that this verse emphasizes the isolation each soul will experience before Allah, where no family ties can intervene or provide protection.

This ayah appears in a passage (verses 33-42) describing the events of the Day of Judgment, specifically highlighting how each person will be preoccupied with their own fate and unable to help even their closest loved ones.
