Transliteration
Kathalika wa zawwajnahum bi huurin 'ayn
Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah describes how the inhabitants of Paradise will be united with pure, beautiful companions (hur al-'ayn - women of paradisiacal beauty with large, luminous eyes). According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, this represents one of the greatest blessings of Paradise, emphasizing the perfection and eternal joy that awaits the righteous. The word 'zawwajnahum' (we paired/married them) indicates a complete and harmonious companionship, symbolizing the fulfillment of desires in a manner far exceeding earthly experience.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in Surah Ad-Dukhan, a Meccan chapter that emphasizes the realities of the Hereafter and divine rewards. It comes within a broader passage (44:51-57) describing the comprehensive blessings granted to the inhabitants of Paradise, serving to motivate believers toward righteousness during the challenging early Meccan period when the message faced opposition.
Related Hadiths
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'In Paradise, the believer will have power (sexual ability) equal to a hundred men' (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 2536). Additionally, multiple ahadith in Sahih Muslim describe the beauty and virtue of the hur al-'ayn as part of the complete joy of Paradise.
