Transliteration

Inna Allaha huwa ar-Razzaqu dhu al-quwwati al-matīn

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah affirms that Allah alone is ar-Razzaq (the Provider), possessing absolute strength (al-quwwah) and unbreakable might (al-matīn). Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi emphasize that this declaration refutes the pagan belief that idols or partners could provide sustenance, establishing that provision is exclusively from Allah's dominion. The combination of these divine attributes—provision with strength—conveys that Allah's provision is not a sign of weakness but flows from His infinite power and unchanging nature.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in Surah Adh-Dhariyat, a Meccan chapter that addresses the reality of divine oneness and Allah's complete control over creation. The surah contextualizes human anxiety about sustenance by reminding believers that Allah guarantees provision for all living creatures (51:22), with this ayah serving as the conclusive affirmation of Allah's sole role as Provider, countering Meccan pagan anxieties about relying exclusively on Allah.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Each of you is created in the womb of his mother for forty days as a nutfah (sperm-drop), then he becomes an 'alaqah (clot) for an equal period, then a mudghah (morsel of flesh) for an equal period, then the angel is sent and blows the soul into him' (Sahih Bukhari 3208). This hadith reinforces that Allah's provision extends from conception, demonstrating His role as ar-Razzaq throughout human development.
