Al-Baqarah · Ayah 153

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱسْتَعِينُوا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَٱلصَّلَوٰةِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ 153

Translations

O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allāh is with the patient.

Transliteration

Ya ayyuha alladhina amanu istaAAeenoo bialssabri waalssalati inna Allaha maAAa alssabireena

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah commands the believers to seek assistance through patience (sabr) and prayer (salah) in facing difficulties and trials. Classical scholars like Al-Qurtubi and Ibn Kathir emphasize that sabr encompasses perseverance through hardship while maintaining reliance on Allah, and that salah serves as a means of drawing closer to Him and finding solace. [They continued] until, when the messengers despaired and were certain that they had been denied, there came to them Our victory, and whoever We willed was saved. And Our punishment cannot be repelled from the people who are criminals.

2:156Al-Baqarah

ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَآ أَصَـٰبَتْهُم مُّصِيبَةٌ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّآ إِلَيْهِ رَٰجِعُونَ

Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allāh, and indeed to Him we will return."
