Tafsir (Explanation)
Allah assures Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that He will suffice him against those who mock and ridicule him and his message. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari explain this as a divine promise of protection and support against the mockers of Quraysh who derided the Prophet's mission. This ayah emphasizes Allah's commitment to defend His messenger and vindicate the truth against all forms of ridicule and opposition.
Revelation Context
This ayah is part of Surah Al-Hijr, revealed during the Meccan period when the Prophet faced severe mockery and ridicule from the disbelievers of Quraysh. The broader context of the surah addresses various objections raised by the Meccan pagans against the Quran and prophethood, providing consolation and reassurance to the Prophet during a time of intense persecution.
Related Hadiths
The theme of Allah's protection against mockers is reflected in numerous hadiths, including the narration in Sahih Bukhari where the Prophet is reported to have said that he was given victory through fear (awe) cast into the hearts of enemies. Additionally, the Seerah literature documents instances where Allah protected the Prophet from harm despite continuous ridicule from the Meccan elite.

Key Lesson
This ayah teaches believers that when they face mockery or ridicule for their faith, they can trust in Allah's protection and support. Modern Muslims should find comfort knowing that opposition to truth is temporary, and that reliance on Allah (Tawakkul) during trials of ridicule and social pressure is the path to spiritual strength and ultimate vindication.
