Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah refers to Allah who created you, then fashioned you in perfect form, and then balanced and proportioned you in the most excellent manner. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi emphasize that 'sawwa' (fashioned) refers to giving the human form its proper shape and beauty, while 'adala' (balanced/equalized) refers to the perfect proportion and equilibrium of the body's faculties, limbs, and spiritual nature. This verse highlights the divine perfection in human creation as evidence of Allah's wisdom and power.

Revelation Context

This ayah is part of Surah Al-Infitar, a Meccan surah that focuses on the signs of Allah's majesty and the accountability of human beings. The surah opens by addressing the cosmic order and then turns to human creation, emphasizing how every person should recognize their Creator through the miracle of their own existence and the guardianship of noble angels recording their deeds.
