Tafsir (Explanation)
Nuh (peace be upon him) calls upon Allah to help him against those who rejected his message, seeking divine support against his people's denial and mockery. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir note this reflects Nuh's patience and firm reliance on Allah despite prolonged rejection for 950 years, demonstrating the believer's recourse to supplication when facing persistent opposition to the truth.
Revelation Context
This ayah is part of Surah Al-Mu'minun's narrative of Prophet Nuh and his struggle with his disbelieving people. It illustrates the broader Meccan period context where Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and believers faced similar rejection, offering solace through the historical precedent of earlier prophets' trials.
Related Hadiths
The Hadith of the Ark's Flood (various compilations) describes Nuh's 950-year call and his prayer against the disbelievers. Additionally, Surah Nuh 71:26-27 records Nuh's supplication: 'My Lord, do not leave upon the earth from the disbelievers an inhabitant,' showing the culmination of patient response to rejection.
