Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah is Allah's command to the disbelievers on the Day of Judgment to go towards that which they denied and rejected during their lifetime. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi interpret this as Allah allowing the deniers to proceed toward the punishment they earned through their rejection of the truth, which is both a consequence of their choices and a manifestation of divine justice. The ayah emphasizes that those who rejected the signs of Allah will ultimately face the reality of what they dismissed as falsehood.
Revelation Context
Surah Al-Mursalat was revealed in Mecca during the early Islamic period and addresses the inevitable reality of the Day of Judgment and resurrection. This particular ayah appears in a passage describing the stark division between the righteous and the wicked on that Day, where each group is directed according to their deeds in this life.
Related Hadiths
The hadith from Sahih Muslim (2806) regarding the Day of Judgment states: 'The people of Paradise will enter Paradise and the people of the Fire will enter the Fire.' This echoes the theme of each group receiving what they prepared for themselves through their beliefs and actions.
