ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ 72
Translations
Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer?
Transliteration
A-antum ansha'tum shajarataha am nahnu al-munshi'un
Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah poses a rhetorical question challenging the disbelievers to reflect on their own powerlessness: 'Did you create the tree of fire (from which you get fuel), or are We the Creators?' Allah is emphasizing His sole creative power and sovereignty over all creation, including the date palm tree (mentioned in the previous ayah, verse 71) from which comes fire-producing wood. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari note this as a powerful argument for tawhid (monotheism), compelling the listener to acknowledge that human beings cannot create even the basic materials provided by nature.

And He is the one who gave you life; then He causes you to die and then will [again] give you life. Indeed, mankind is ungrateful.
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُسَيِّرُكُمْ فِى ٱلْبَرِّ وَٱلْبَحْرِ ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا كُنتُمْ فِى ٱلْفُلْكِ وَجَرَيْنَ بِهِم بِرِيحٍ طَيِّبَةٍ وَفَرِحُوا۟ بِهَا جَآءَتْهَا رِيحٌ عَاصِفٌ وَجَآءَهُمُ ٱلْمَوْجُ مِن كُلِّ مَكَانٍ وَظَنُّوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ أُحِيطَ بِهِمْ ۙ دَعَوُا۟ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ لَئِنْ أَنجَيْتَنَا مِنْ هَـٰذِهِۦ لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَ
It is He who enables you to travel on land and sea until, when you are in ships and they sail with them by a good wind and they rejoice therein, there comes a storm wind and the waves come upon them from every place and they expect to be engulfed, they supplicate Allāh, sincere to Him in religion, "If You should save us from this, we will surely be among the thankful."
