Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah affirms that the Qur'an is guidance and mercy specifically for the believers—those who have faith and submit to Allah's message. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari emphasize that while the Qur'an is a universal message, its benefits of guidance and mercy are fully realized only by those who believe in it and act upon its teachings. The ayah underscores that the Qur'an's transformative power is conditional upon sincere belief and receptiveness to its message.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears near the conclusion of Surah An-Naml, which addresses the stories of previous prophets and communities. The context emphasizes the Qur'an's role as a decisive revelation that distinguishes between believers and disbelievers, with the surah itself serving as a comprehensive manifestation of divine guidance.
Related Hadiths
Abu Daud and At-Tirmidhi report that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'The best of you are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it.' This relates to the theme of the Qur'an being mercy, as sharing its guidance with others extends that mercy throughout the community.
