أَبْصَـٰرُهَا خَـٰشِعَةٌ 9

Transliteration
Absaaruhaa khashi'ah
Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah describes the state of the eyes of the people on the Day of Judgment, humbled and downcast with fear and awe before Allah. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari explain that 'khashi'ah' (humbled/downcast) refers to the eyes being lowered in shame, fear, and submission as people face the reality of their deeds. This depicts the spiritual and psychological state of those awaiting divine judgment, their vision dimmed by the overwhelming consciousness of standing before their Creator.
Revelation Context
This ayah is part of Surah An-Nazi'at's vivid eschatological description of the Day of Resurrection. If you disbelieve - indeed, Allāh is Free from need of you. And He does not approve for His servants disbelief. And if you are grateful, He approves [i.e., likes] it for you; and no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you about what you used to do. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.
وَإِن مِّنكُمْ إِلَّا وَارِدُهَا ۚ كَانَ عَلَىٰ رَبِّكَ حَتْمًا مَّقْضِيًّا
And there is none of you except he will come to it. This is upon your Lord an inevitability decreed.
وَأَنذِرْهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْحَسْرَةِ إِذْ قُضِىَ ٱلْأَمْرُ وَهُمْ فِى غَفْلَةٍ وَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
And warn them, [O Muḥammad], of the Day of Regret, when the matter will be concluded; and [yet], they are in [a state of] heedlessness, and they do not believe.
