Hūrun maqsūrātun fī al-khiyām
Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah describes the wives of the inhabitants of Paradise as 'hūr' (beautiful women with intensely black eyes and white sclera) who are 'maqsūrāt' (confined, sheltered, or restrained in modesty) within the 'khiyām' (pavilions or tents). According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi, this describes the exquisite beauty and dignified seclusion of the righteous wives in Paradise, emphasizing both their physical beauty and their virtuous, modest nature. The mention of confinement to pavilions suggests privacy, honor, and protection—a state of exclusive companionship for the blessed believers.
