Wa-in yaraw kisafan mina as-sama'i saqitan yaqulun sahabun markum

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah describes the obstinacy of the disbelievers who, even when witnessing miraculous signs from Allah, attribute them to natural phenomena rather than acknowledging divine power. If they were to see a piece of the sky falling down, they would dismiss it as merely accumulated clouds, refusing to recognize it as a sign of Allah's might and the reality of the Day of Judgment. Al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir interpret this as depicting the Quraysh's persistent denial and their habitual rationalization of extraordinary events, highlighting their willful blindness despite clear evidence.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in the Meccan surah At-Tur, which focuses on warnings about the Day of Judgment and the consequences of disbelief. The broader context of the surah emphasizes the stubbornness of the disbelievers in denying the resurrection and Allah's signs, making this verse part of a sustained critique of their rejection of truth.

Related Hadiths

This ayah relates thematically to Hadith Qudsi regarding Allah's signs: 'I have prepared for My righteous servants what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has conceived' (Sahih Bukhari 3072), emphasizing the reality of the unseen that disbelievers deny. Additionally, it connects to the Hadith in Sunan Ibn Majah about those who reject clear signs despite witnessing them.

Key Lesson

This ayah teaches us that rejection of truth often stems not from lack of evidence but from hardness of heart and unwillingness to submit to Allah. We should remain humble before the signs of Allah and guard against the spiritual disease of finding natural explanations to dismiss divine guidance, instead opening our hearts to recognize Allah's presence in all things.
